Release, relax, let go

Our journey started at 10:00pm on January 5th, 2006 with our water breaking with a full gush of fluid. My husband called our midwife and doula to let them know and to see what we should do next. We are Hypno-Birthing parents and were excited and ready to labor. By midnight the surges were productive and coming closer together. I remember talking on the phone to my friends and laughing with my husband. I was not in pain. I was in a total hypnotic state, fully aware, yet in a blissful calm. My parents, midwife and doula arrived at our home as we got closer to the birth. From this point on my memory is only of peace, calm and inner focus. I still had not felt any pain. My mantra, “release, relax, let go”, played in my soul and I began to understand the gift that my Hypno-Birthing teacher Alisha Tamburri had given me. I had the knowledge and god given ability to enjoy our labor and birth experience.

At one point during my labor I became unsure of my ability. The fear of how I was doing led to the start of physical pain. I checked in with my doula and we worked through the fear; and the pain was gone! I had realized that in order to enjoy my birth I had to give up control and allow nature to take the lead. The release of birthing our child was very much like an orgasm. The giving of your trust and the rush of your body’s natural drugs was in truth a full-on spiritual and physical orgasm. The best I had ever had!

We birthed our son in the peace and calm of our home. I believe that his drug free, happy birth has given him the best start in life possible. I was so moved by my teacher that I am now a doula working on spreading the word to women everywhere.
